Automation reeler section CMPC
Chilean Cartulinas CMPC S.A. is one of the world’s leading producers of folding boxboard (FBB). The high-quality products — sold in more than 50 countries on the five continents – are characterized by high rigidity and excellent surface quality. They are used for the packaging of premium products such as perfume, luxury chocolates and fine wines.
CMPC ordered a new reeler section from Bellmer in order to automate the existing board machine in their Maule Mill, 280 km south of the Chilean capital Santiago. The TurboReeler includes the most modern features, including center winder technology to minimize core losses during roll changes. The continuous movement of the spool rolls will be supported by the TurboTransporter. The ready spool rolls can be taken out of the machine, turned and returned using a special airmover. The transfer to the winder is executed with a Butt-Splicer which guarantees minimum changeover times. For the first time Bellmer integrated a Spool lift with automatic back transport to the reeler. The BellBase system, with more than 1,100 input/output signals, monitors the whole process. A complete spool roll will weigh 60 tons at a working width of 4.3 meters.
Bellmer’s specialists mounted the complete section at Site 3 in Germany to ensure everything was working perfectly, and to allow fast erection on site and a smooth start-up. It was also a perfect opportunity for CMPC to receive its first training. 10 specialists from different departments including production, mechanical and electrical maintenance, automation and engineering stayed for a full week in Germany. The Chileans were able to gain first-hand experience and get to know their German counterparts. The total weight of the reeler section is 510 tons. After careful dismantling the pre-mounted parts were shipped in 25 containers.
