Successful modernization of PM4 at Steinbeis Papier
Steinbeis Papier GmbH in Glückstadt has been setting benchmarks in environmentally friendly paper production for decades. With the recent modernization project of paper machine PM4, the company once again demonstrates how technological innovation and sustainable business practices can be successfully combined.
As part of the upgrade, two new suction couch rolls (one as a replacement) and a TurboJetter headbox were installed. The goal was to optimize sheet formation, improve energy efficiency, and further enhance production quality.
Efficient Sheet Formation with TurboJetter
The new TurboJetter ensures uniform fiber distribution and excellent formation in the forming section. Its hydraulic design, stainless steel lamellae, and innovative double-diffuser concept optimally disperse and align the stock suspension. A pulsation damper with an air cushion reduces disruptive pressure fluctuations and contributes to process stability.

The new suction couch roll plays a central role in dewatering and web guidance. By generating a vacuum, it enables controlled water removal from the paper web and ensures precise transfer to the press section. Modern designs such as the “Smart Suction Roll” are characterized by:
