The municipality of Emfuleni is one of the three municipalities in the Sedibeng district in Gauteng, which is located in the northeast of South Africa. The municipality recently completed the upgrading of its Sebokeng wastewater treatment plant. This wastewater treatment plant is located south of Johannesburg.
With the expansion of the new so-called “Module 6”, the total treatment capacity of the plant increased from 100,000 m³/day to 150,000 m³/day. The scope of services for Module 6 included the complete expansion with inlet constructions up to the fi nal clarification and sludge dewatering.
Our South African partner PCI SA was awarded the contract for the mechanical implementation of this module. Bellmer’s scope of supply comprised a total of 6 dewatering lines each consisting of a Turbodrain 4C and a WinklePress NG 3. Of these 6 lines, 4 are in operation and 2 are on standby. The sludge processing capacity is 116 tonnes dry matter per week with a hydraulic load of 37,200 m³/week. In summer 2021, the dewatering plant was successfully commissioned and handed over to the municipality. The wastewater treatment plant team is very satisfied with the smooth and fully automated operation of the dewatering facilities.
